Canadian artist Elessar Thiessen will be live on stage at the Aubrey Vineyards tasting room, this Friday inside of Vinyl Renaissance & Audio, as part of Third Friday Local Life.

Kansas Wine Tasting Events in September

Its hard to believe that back to school is in session and its nearly the end of summer!

Most of the summer wine events have passed and its time to get ready for fall.

In addition to local wine events Aubrey Vineyards also conducts complimentary wine tasting events at local liquor stores.

Live music will be provided by Maria the Mexican from 7pm-8:30pm.

Maria the Mexican is a group of 4 musicians from the midwest.

Maria Cuevas, Tess Cuevas, D. Garrett Nordstrom, and Jason Riley.

The group's genre of music is a true hybrid of Mexican folklore and rock & roll, delivered in both English and Spanish.

Aubrey Vineyards is the Kansas City hometown winery.

Aubrey Vineyards is located at 163rd and Kenneth Road in Overland Park, but isn't open to the public just yet.

Like a fine wine, great things come in time!

The Aubrey Vineyards tasting room is located in downtown Overland Park, inside Vinyl Renaissance & Audio record store.

The tasting room and store is open to the public 7 days a week.

The Aubrey Vineyards wine collection can also be found in many local liquor stores and restaurants.

Aubrey Vineyards has a unique premium selection of wines from the most popular Cabernet Sauvignon, to two different unoaked Chardonnays, to classic Midwestern varietal reds and whites like Chambourcin, Catawaba and Vidal Blanc, just to name a few.

The vineyard also produces pure Apple and Honey wines.

The wine and recipe of the week is Apple Wine and Pork Shawarma wraps.

The 2014 Apple wine is very refreshing and crisp.

It is made from pure fermented apple juice.

The finish of this wine has a tartness reminiscent of the peel of an apple.

It pairs well with dishes of rich and tangy flavors. For example, baby back ribs, turkey burgers, parmesan risotto, and pork shawarma wraps.

Shawarma is a turkish dish usually of pork, beef, chicken, lamb, etc.

It is marinated for 24 hours then slowly roasted on a rotating vertical spit.

Pork Shawarma recipe:

• 1 Boneless Pork Shoulder
• 2 Tabelspoons Smoked paprika
• 2 Tabelspoons Garlic powder
• 2 Tabelspoons Onion powder
• 2 Tabelspoons Oregano
• 2 Tabelspoons Coriander ground
• Zest of six lemons
• ½ cup Extra virgin olive oil
• 1 Tabelspoon Sea Salt

1. In a large bowl mix all spices, lemon zest and sea salt together.
2. Slice pork shoulder thinly
3. Coat pork shoulder with the olive oil
4. Rub meat with spice mix
5. Marinate in fridge overnight
6. On a vertical or horizontal spit, slow roast the meat at 300 degrees fahrenheit.
7. Shave meat away with a long sharp knife as it cooks.
8. Keep a pan underneath to collect juices.
9. When the pork is fully cooked, marinate it with juices collected from the pan.
10. Serve in a warm pita or wrap with your favorite toppings (i.e. tomatoes, lettuce, feta, hummus).
11. Enjoy with a glass of Apple wine!
