    The New 2014 Honey Wine

    Looking for something sweet to sip in the heat? The 2014 Honey Wine is here!

    This wine is made from pure and local honey.

    It is a sweet wine with soft honey aromas, sweetened grain and clover notes.

    Compared to the previous 2013 Johnson County vintage, it is of lighter hue, delicately sweet yet higher in viscosity.

    It pairs well with spicy foods, light cheeses, fruit, and desserts.

    Next to the Peanut at 7932 Santa Fe Dr (inside Vinyl Renaissance & Audio), free tastings and sales by the bottle are available during Vinyl Renaissance & Audio's business hours.

    Trail Rider White and Watermelon Salsa

    The wine and recipe of the week is Trail Rider White and Watermelon Salsa.

    The 2013 Trail Rider White is a semi-sweet white wine blend by Aubrey Vineyards. It has honey and floral aromas, with pear and apple flavors, similar to a fine German Riesling.

    It is a great summer wine to enjoy at a picnic gathering with watermelon salsa or an indoor gathering with Asian cuisines.

    Watermelon Salsa recipe:
     
    • 3 c seedless watermelon, diced
    • 1/2 medium sweet red bell pepper, diced
    • 1/4 c fresh cilantro, chopped
    • 1 medium scallion, chopped
    • 1 tsp unpacked brown sugar
    • 2 T fresh lime juice (1 lime)
    • 1/4-1/2 tsp ground cumin
    • 1/8 tsp salt
    • 1/4 tsp crushed red pepper
    •  
    1. Combine all of the ingredients and toss lightly.
    2. Taste and adjust the seasonings accordingly.
    3. Chill for 20 min.
    4. Serve with tortilla or pita chips, or as a garnish for grilled chicken
    5. or fish.
    6. Enjoy with a glass of Trail Rider White!

    In addition to local wine events Aubrey Vineyards also conducts public wine tastings at local liquor stores. For the rest of the month of July there will be wine tastings in Overland Park, Olathe, Lenexa, and also Kansas City, Missouri.

    This wine is made from pure and local fermented Johnson county honey.

    It is a sweet wine with soft honey aromas and a smooth honey finish.

    It pairs well with light cheeses, fruit, and desserts.

    Local Life  is Friday, July 15th from 5pm-9pm.

    Aubrey Vineyards will host a complimentary wine tasting of:

    It will be a sweet occasion to sample and celebrate this new vintage and enjoy live music as well as other festivities.

    Live music will be provided by Wyoming Voeks.

    Cody Wyoming and Erik Voeks are both Kansas City based singers-songwriters.

    Wyoming Voeks will be live on stage from 6:30pm-8:00pm.

    Chambourcin Rose' and Grilled Lamb Souvlaki w/tzatziki sauce

    The wine and recipe of the week is Chambroucin Rose' by Aubrey Vineyards and Grilled Lamb Souvlaki .

     

    The 2014 Chambourcin Rose' is a dry wine.

    This garnet shade of wine has cherry notes and a red rose bouquet.

    The color of this wine is the result of Chambourcin grapes fermented and processed without the skin.

    It is a bold yet floral, spicy and dry rose', perfect for those red wine drinkers who can't find that bold red wine to chill and enjoy in the summertime.

    It pairs well with grilled meats or rich desserts.

    Grilled Lamb Souvlaki recipe:

    • 2 lbs. lamb leg or shoulder
    • 5 tbsp olive oil
    • 2 cloves of minced garlic
    • juice of 1 lemon
    • 2 chopped red onions
    • 1 tsp dried Greek oregano
    • 1 tsp freshly chopped parsley
    • sea salt
    • freshly ground pepper
    • 10 metal or wooden skewers

    For tzatziki sauce:

    • 1 cucumber
    • 2 cloves of minced garlic
    • 1/4 cup of olive oil
    • 16 ounces of greek yogurt
    • juice of 1 lemon
    • a pinch of salt

    Directions:

    1. Cut the lamb into chunks and set aside.
    2. In a large bowl add the olive oil, garlic, lemon juice, the herbs and spices and season with freshly ground pepper.
    3. Whisk all the ingredients into a decadent marinade.
    4. Add the meat and the chopped onions and blend to coat.
    5. Cover the bowl and place inside fridge to chill for 3 hours.
    6.  Remove the skin and the seeds of the cucumber and grate it into a large bowl.
    7. Season with salt and pepper.
    8. Blend the  garlic olive oil, yogurt, lemon juice, and a pinch of salt.
    9. Add to grated cucumber.
    10. Store the tzatziki sauce in the fridge and allow it to chill as well.
    11. After 3 hours take marinated lamb out of fridge and season with sea salt.
    12. Assemble skewers.
    13. Heat grill and cook the lamb souvlaki for about 10-20 minutes.
    14. Serve with tzatziki sauce, greek salad and/or roasted red bell peppers.
    15. Enjoy with a glass of Chambourcin Rose'!
