Wine Bar Manager

Aubrey Vineyards, a premier south Kansas City winery, is interviewing candidates for a Tasting Room Manager.  The manager will have leadership responsibility for inspiring the Tasting Room team to deliver an exceptional visitor experience. The overall purpose of this position includes responsibility for leading operations and supporting daily engagement activities that drive sales results and build the company’s brand.

 

What you will do:

  • Supervise and ensure proper execution of all aspects of Tasting Room operations, including customer engagement experiences, opening/closing procedures, inventory management, financial accountability and personnel management
  • Be part of creating the culture/brand of Aubrey Vineyards
  • Provide direction to all tasting room staff as a living and breathing example of the brand philosophy.
  • Collaborate with the General Manager or Marketing team to maximize wine sales
  • Perform supervisory responsibilities including hiring and training personnel, creating work schedules, conducting performance reviews, coaching and involvement in the disciplinary process
  • Provide clear direction and support to staff regarding department initiatives and programs
  • Provide a welcoming and enthusiastic atmosphere for all guests visiting the winery
  • Responsible for ensuring consistent high quality of food preparation and service, including enforcement of sanitary practices for food handling (ServSafe)
  • Maintain staff cleanliness, proper uniforms, and appearance standards
  • Respond to complaints, taking any and all appropriate actions to turn dissatisfied guests into returning guests
  • Ensure that proper security procedures are in place to protect employees, guests and company assets
  • Learn to operate a manual/walk-behind fork lift
  • Manage cash handling, including cash drawer reconciliations, bank deposits and change orders
  • Maintain the overall appearance of the sales floor, tasting rooms, outdoor seating areas, and restrooms
  • Troubleshoot POS system issues when required
  • Other related duties assigned

 

Staff Development:

  • Train and develop staff with an emphasis on a wine education and exceptional customer service., and provide timely and relevant feedback
  • Mentor new employees to assist them in assimilating quickly, with particular attention to winery history and brand messaging as well as general operations
  • Create and update training manuals as needed
  • Cultivate teamwork, trust and mutual respect

 

Desired Candidate Qualities:

  • Professional, proud, friendly, and welcoming
  • Minimum of two years of supervisory experience with the ability to train and develop employees in a the restaurant or bar industry
  • Enthusiastic, joyful with excellent listening skills
  • Must be outgoing, personable, detail-oriented and highly organized
  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills that should include public speaking and presentation skills
  • Excellent leadership, customer service & strategic selling skills with the ability to train others, monitor their performance and provide constructive feedback
  • Able to multi-task in a fast paced, changing environment
  • Must have a high level of ability for detail organization, problem solving and personnel management
  • Able to delegate to others to get results
  • Availability must include varied hours and weekends
  • Open to feedback from multiple sources including General Manager and Owners

 

Must be able to meet the following requirements:

  • Must be able to work various days/shifts of the week, including evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • This position is full time and will require working 40 hours per week.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Able and willing to work on premise in various settings: office environment, tasting rooms and outside.
  • Must be able to frequently lift and carry weights of up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to perform tasks requiring bending, stooping, standing, and twisting in the performance of various tasks.
